GARDINER (AP) — Two men have been hospitalized after being involved in a knife fight in the parking lot of a Gardiner supermarket.
Police say they responded to multiple calls about a fight outside a Hannaford store at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
They say what started as a verbal altercation developed into a fistfight before both men drew knives.
Both were stabbed multiple times on the upper body.
One man was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and the second to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
Their conditions were not disclosed, but police say both were conscious, alert and walking when police arrived.
Police say the men knew each other and there is a history of trouble between them.
No names were released.
No charges were immediately filed.
