BRUNSWICK
The Brunswick Downtown Association wants nominations for its 2013 Downtown Preservation Awards.
The awards are presented annually in recognition of organizations and individuals that have created tangible value in the heart of the community through renovation or restoration of existing buildings.
Nominations should include information about the location and duration of the project, the identity and description of the project, any special materials used, and an explanation of how the project contributes to preservation in downtown Brunswick.
Retail, residential and institutional buildings are eligible, as are infrastructure improvements.
Projects completed since 2003 are eligible.
In 2012, four preservation projects were recognized: the Lincoln Street Historic District brick paving project; the Blot family restoration of an 1890s Italianate home on High Street; Maine State Music Theater’s transformation of a former Studebaker dealership; and renovation of the former Grand City at Town Hall Place into a flagship store.
Nominations forms due April 15 are available online at www.brunswickdowntown.com or at 85 Maine St. Awards will be presented May 9.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
