BATH — “Maine’s Avoidable Budget Crisis” is the topic of a public presentation scheduled at Bath-Brunswick University College on Wednesday.
Garrett Martin, executive director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy, will discuss the Center’s analysis of Maine’s budget woes, and explore possible solutions, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 in room 113 of the campus at 9 Park St.
The Maine Center for Economic Policy recently published a report stating that, while the historically bad recession of 2008 and a weak recovery are to blame for most of the state’s budget gap, the remainder is the direct result of actions taken by Gov. Paul LePage and Maine legislators in 2011 and 2012.
The forum is sponsored by the Sagadahoc County Democratic Committee and is free and open to the public.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
