In just its second season, the Maine web series “Ragged Isle” continues to garner national awards.

At the recent Indie Soap Awards, “Ragged Isle” won for best director in a drama. Director Barry Dodd says taking home this award for the second year in a row came to him as a complete surprise.

“We had done so well last year at the ISA’s that I had honestly just settled in to enjoy the night and cheer on all the great artists as they accepted their awards,” said Dodd. “It really threw me when I heard them call my name. Considering the level of talent in the director category, it is a huge honor to have been presented this award again and I am so proud of our team because you don’t get an award like this without a show that is working on all levels. My hats off to the cast, crew and musicians who donated their skills to Ragged Isle!”

The fourth annual Indie Soap Awards were awarded Feb. 19 at a gala event at the New World Stages in New York City. This year, Mainemade dramatic web series “Ragged Isle” was nominated for seven Indie Soap Awards. The Indie Soap Awards are a prestigious recognition in the independent online entertainment community.

“Ragged Isle” was nominated for Best Web Series (Drama); Best Supporting Actor (Drama) — Ian Carlsen; Best Writing (Drama) — Greg Tulonen, Rick Dalton, Karen L. Dodd, Barry Dodd and Jacob Lear; Best Directing — Barry Dodd; Best Soundtrack; Best Editing (all shows) — Barry Dodd; and Best Visual/ Special Effects (all shows) — Eric Anderson and Derek Kimball.

“We used to argue on behalf of a potential nominee, ‘it’s so good, it could be on TV.’ This time, to make the cut, it had to be, ‘this is excellent, it’s better than anything on TV!’ It’s extraordinary. I think we’ve passed a historic landmark for the genre,” said Roger Newcomb, founder of We Love Soaps, an advocate for scripted, serialized storytelling on TV and the web.

In 2012, “Ragged Isle” won five major international awards including three Indie Soap Awards: Best Director (Barry Dodd), Best Cinematography and Best Web Series (Drama). In addition, it garnered “Best Thriller” and “Best Supporting Actor” (Rick Dalton) from the well established online Indie Intertube Awards.

“Ragged Isle” is a culmination of Maine artists from all over the state — including writers, actors, filmmakers and musicians. Ragged Isle can be seen at raggedisle.com and recently joined the new Entertainment Experiment online network, an Internet platform to showcase Maine’s digital talent, where it will launch it’s final season in 2013 (entertainmentexperiment.com).

Drawing inspiration from such cult classics as “The XFiles,” “Twin Peaks,” and the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows,” “Ragged Isle” has been crafted with genre fans in mind. Maine native husband and wife duo, Barry and Karen Dodd, are proud to showcase their home on an international platform and are thrilled and humbled by their recent recognition.
