“The 2013 lambing season started on Feb. 8 and as of today 89 lambs have been born at the farm,” said farmer Seth Kroeck in a news release.
He leases some of Crystal Spring Farm from BTLT for his Community Supported Agriculture program and sheep operation.
Kroeck and BTLT board member Tom Settlemire raise Katahdin sheep and Katahdin crosses which are prized for their meat and represent one of the fastest growing breeds of sheep in the country. Some 40 percent of the sheep raised at Crystal Spring Farm is sold as breeding stock with the remainder going to meat primarily wholesaled to restaurants and grocery stores.
According to Settlemire, New Lamb Day is a very special opportunity to view farm life in the making.
