The City Council on Wednesday will address a resolution aimed at restricting the influence of money in national elections.
The council also will consider rescinding the eviction order against Alan and Yvonne Orchard, 45 Windjammer Way; and the issue of alewife fishing rights.
Regarding a U.S. Supreme Court decision widely known at “Citizens United,” the city is considering a resolution supporting an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would establish money is not free speech and that human beings, not legal entities like corporations, are entitled to constitutional rights.
The City Council condemned the Orchards’ home in January, and followed that with an eviction notice. The couple resisted, and people stepped in to repair a sagging foundation and damaged roof.
In mid-February, the couple learned an order to vacate the home had been rescinded. The City Council will consider doing the same Wednesday.
Councilors also will vote on orders regarding alewife fishing rights at Winnegance Lake and Whiskeag Creek.
The meeting at City Hall begins at 6 p.m.
