BATH — Two Hyde School wrestlers competed in New England Prep School Championships this past weekend in Pennsylvania.
Steven Dwight (285 pounds) and Darvin Anderson (138) both had successful trips.
Anderson, a junior, opened with pin, and started Saturday off with a 9-6 decision over an opponent from Connecticut. In the semifinal, Anderson was forced to withdraw due to an injury. He battled back in his next match before falling 14-12. In the fifth-place bout, Anderson took a 12-1 major decision.
Dwight entered the tournament with a 19-0 record and the top seed in New England, and he began well with a pin just 1:01 in. He kept rolling in the semifinals, scoring an 11-6 victory with four takedowns and a solid reversal.
Dwight didn’t have to work as hard in the championship match, scoing a quick takedown before finishing his opponent off via pinfall in a mere 16 seconds.
The efforts of Dwight and Anderson propelled the Phoenix 23rd place out of 46 reams in the tournament. The duo qualified for the National Prep Wrestling Championships, scheduled to take place this upcoming Friday at Lehigh University.
