LEWISTON — The University of Southern Maine men’s indoor track and field team, paced by Jamie Ruginski’s record-setting performance in the triple jump, equaled the program’s best-ever finish at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held Friday and Saturday at Bates College.
The Huskies tallied 52 points to tie with the Bridgewater State University Bears for fifth spot among the 22 teams scoring. M.I.T. captured the team title, amassing 118.50 points, followed by host Bates in second with 94 points. Tufts University was third with 92 points and Williams College was fourth with 59.
Ruginski had a big day winning the triple jump and placing third in the long jump.
Senior Parker Chipman of Pownal was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.62.
The Huskies will return to competition next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Boston for the NEICAAA New England Championships at the Track and Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University.
