BRUNSWICK
Brunswick police who reached out to a neighborhood where an 18-year-old was reported missing Thursday found the teen about two hours later in Topsham.
Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said an officer was flagged down on Maquoit Road at 11:06 a.m. Thursday by a woman who reported her 18-year-old son missing.
She reported the boy has mental issues and had not been taking his medication.
The woman told police she spoke to him around 10 a.m. and he wouldn’t tell her where he was, then turned his phone off. She last saw him around 8 a.m. when he left to go for a jog.
In an effort to locate the teen, Hagan said police contacted the Cumberland County dispatch center and had them use the reverse 911 system to notify residents within a three-mile radius of the woman’s Maquoit Road home that police were searching for the 18-year-old.
Police also advised local law enforcement agencies they were looking for the young man and gave them his description.
At approximately 1 p.m., Topsham police Officer Troy Garrison was driving on Route 196 in Topsham — searching for a juvenile reported missing in Lisbon — when he spotted the missing Brunswick teen walking along the road. Garrison took him into protective custody and transported him to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for evaluation.
