Voters in Freeport, Durham and Pownal will be asked in June to back a $16.9 million expansion of Freeport High School.
The Regional School Unit 5 board voted 9-2 Wednesday to send the proposal to voters.
The proposal envisions nine new classrooms and an eight-lane track and athletic field, and would allow the school to accomodate up to 800 students.
School officials project enrollment at the school will increase from 540 students to more than 650 in the next decade.
Architects say the additions allow for growth, with a 31,000-square-foot addition that could support a third floor and the potential to convert student study areas into classrooms.
The existing cafeteria would be converted into space for the school library. The renovation also would make the building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
