BRUNSWICK — Both the Brunswick and Mt. Ararat high school boys ice hockey teams were victorious on Saturday.

At Sydney J. Watson Arena, the host Dragons improved to 6-5 and are scheduled to host Cony this afternoon.

Matt Brooks converted a Nate Granholm feed at 14:13 for the lone goal of the first period.

In the second period, Ethan Caillier scored unassisted at 2:26 for a 1-1 game and he scored again five minutes later for a 2-1 Poland/Gray- New Gloucester advantage.

Tyler Sullivan (Granholm, Brooks) tied things up at 2-2 at 10:35 of the second period.

In the third frame, Brooks converted a Dwayne Palmer feed at 13:30 for the game-winning goal.

“I thought we outplayed them, but we just couldn’t score,” said Brunswick coach Mike Routhier, whose team held a 44-10 shots advantage. “And, their goalie played well.”

Blake Alexander was in goal for Brunswick and got strong support from Palmer throughout, while Calvin Shelley manned the nets for Poland/GNG (2-6-1).

The visiting Eagles got an overtime goal from Jason Kenney to topple Fryeburg/Lake Region at Bridgton Academy.

After a scoreless first period, Evan Tome scored, with Eric Stuckey and Shane Cyr each picking up an assist.

Dakota Russo scored a third-period goal for the hosts to send the game into overtime.

After a 2-on-1, Kenney converted a Stuckey feed at 4:38 of the overtime period to lift the 4-7 Eagles, who led in shots 28-20.

Ben Bishop played well in goal and Logan McGuire stood out for Mt. Ararat, scheduled to take on Skowhegan today at Sukee Arena.
