Shrimping season starts Wednesday, the Maine Department of Marine Resources said Friday.
The department said there was confusion about the start date of the 2013 shrimp season. The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission specified Jan. 22 as the start date — a Tuesday. But it also restricts fishing to Monday and Wednesday only.
As such, the first day trawlers can land shrimp is Wednesday, Jan. 23.
