WALDOBORO — The Morse High School girls basketball team earned its first Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win of the season with a 40-32 verdict over Medomak Valley on Friday.

“A true team effort on both ends of the court tonight for the ladies,” said Morse coach Becky Roak.

Morse was sparked defensively by Megan Hixon, who contributed 11 points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist. Freshman Signe Ostergaard chipped in 11 points, while senior Sadia Crosby had a double-double with 10 points and a like number of rebounds. She also had three steals and two assists. Freshman Emma Harrington had 10 boards and six points.

High scorer for Medomak was Samantha Griffin with 15 points.

Morse improved to 1-2 and is scheduled to host Lincoln Academy on Tuesday.

Senior forward Jess Conant scored 15 points as Dirigo coasted to a 58-39 victory over Lisbon in Mountain Valley Conference action on Saturday.

Ambyr Wilson and Kayla Gaudin chipped in with 12 points each for the Cougars (2-2).

The Greyhounds (2-1) trailed by only two at the half, but became plagued with turnovers and poor shooting from the line down the stretch.

Forward Denise Thomas recorded a game-high 15 points on six field goals and three free throws for Lisbon.

Thomas also pulled down 12 rebounds for the Greyhounds, who are scheduled to visit Wiscasset on Tuesday.

Freshman forward Blayke Morin tossed in 16 points and gathered 14 rebounds as the host Lakers downed the Bobcats in overtime in a key East- West Conference clash on Friday.

Jamie Plummer led the 2-1 Bobcats (scheduled to host Seacoast Christian on Wednesday) with 29 points. Alyssa Pearson chipped in with 10 points and Kelsea Anair added six in the loss.

In the fourth quarter, Taylor Esty canned six of eight free throws to make for the overtime period.

After a 14-14 first-quarter stalemate, Richmond led 23-22 at the half and 33-31 after three quarters. The team were tied 46 at the end of regulation.

In KVAC action Friday night, the host Dragons were outscored 25-12 in the second quarter and fell to 0-3 on the young season.

Edward Little led just 11-10 after one period, but forged into a 36-23 halftime advantage. The Eddies also led 59-23 heading into the final eight minutes.

Julia Champagne and Lyse Henshaw split 16 points down the middle and Anna Dimick added seven for Brunswick, scheduled to visit Oxford Hills on Tuesday.

Ashlee Arnold paced EL with 24 points as 11 players got into the scoring column. Brooke Reynolds and Tianna Harriman chipped in with eight points in the win.

In Western Maine Conference play on Saturday, the visiting Falcons dipped to 1-2 and are scheduled to host Wells on Tuesday.

Tiana-Jo Carter led the hosts with 15 points and 18 rebounds as the Lakers improved to 4-0.

Nina Davenport led Freeport with 10 points. The Falcons trailed 23-10 at the half.

Caitlin LaFountain popped in 26 points, including a school-record five 3-pointers to help lead Mt. Ararat past Erskine Academy on Friday in KVAC play.

LaFountain also pulled down eight caroms, had three assists and three steals.

The host Eagles improved to 3-0 and are scheduled to visit Skowhegan on Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat led 22-12, 33-16 and 54-25 at the quarter breaks as Mallory Nelson chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds, Kristi Willey 11 points and seven caroms, and Olivia Swan nine points and a like number of rebounds. Mt. Ararat held at 43-26 edge off the boards.

Bridget Humphrey tossed in 19 points for 0-3 Erskine.

Mt. Ararat was 27 of 63 from the floor and eight of 12 from the line, while the visitors were 12 of 72 from the floor and 16 of 23 from the foul line.
