BATH — The Hyde School wrestling team traveled to Newark, N.J. over the weekend to compete in the Michael and Sandy Caruso Invitational Tournament at St. Benedict’s Prep.
The tournament brought together prominent prep schools, including the nationally second-ranked Wyoming Seminary of Pennsylvania as well as the Virginia’s secondplace Robinson High School to compete in a field of 12 on the first weekend of the 2012- 2013 wrestling season.
Standouts included Darvin Anderson (145 pounds), who earned a gritty win in overtime, as well as captain Moises Diaz (160), who earned fourth-place in this competitive tournament, earning wins over wrestlers from Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in the process.
Other Phoenix wrestlers who competed in the tournament included senior Sam Williams (106), captain Billy Martinez (132), Cody Baker (152), Jack Howarth (192) and heavyweight Austin Makris.
Senior captain Steven Dwight (285) wrestled his way to the finals in dominating fashion before losing to Wyoming Seminary’s sixthranked heavyweight to earn second place.
Hyde’s first regular season dual meets are scheduled for today at Roxbury Latin, with a 4:30 start time.
