OAKLAND (AP) — Police in Oakland are investigating what they call a “particularly distasteful” crime in which a burglar broke into an elderly couple’s home and stole Christmas presents intended for family.

Charlotte Lovejoy, 87, says she and her husband woke up Thursday to discover that 15 Christmas presents as well as prescription medications had been pilfered as they slept. One present was meant for their 6-year-old grandniece.

Lovejoy tells the Morning Sentinel that the theft is a serious financial blow for her and her husband, as they are living on fixed Social Security payments.
