Selectmen will likely sign a warrant Thursday authorizing a Jan. 15 special election to fill an upcoming vacancy on the board.
Before selectmen discuss the warrant for a special election, however, they must first consider the resignation of Selectman Andrew Mason.
Mason’s resignation, effective Jan. 15, follows his Nov. 6 election to the Maine House in District 60.
Nomination papers to fill the remainder of Mason’s term, which expires November 2013, are available and due back in the town clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28.
Also Thursday, selectmen will consider accepting a 2013 Shore and Harbor Grant for Lower Village and Waterfront Trail pedestrian connectivity; and the town’s participation in the state’s study of salt water marshes protection from rising sea levels. The board will also consider voting on appointing Matthew Nixon to the Conservation Commission.
Selectmen also are scheduled to hear updates on the Topsham Community Fund and fundraising for the Topsham Bike Path.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the municipal building, 100 Main St.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
