We were invited to attend by Marty McMahon, the director for the Great State of Maine Air Show, to receive a $500 grant from the MRRA Board of Trustees.
Tthe Santa Claus Fund had applied for a grant in response to an ad in the paper. We were contacted by Suzanne Krause, who works with Marty at the Brunswick Executive Airport and invited us to participate as volunteers at this year’s air show.
We worked the show and had a ball, entertained by an extraordinary group of acrobatic daredevils.
We were compensated for our efforts and $680 went into our fund. That was back in September and we were grateful for that amount.
Well, they surprised us again by announcing we were selected along with nine other charities for an additional $500 award from the board.
We are sincerely thankful to the trustees.
Our kids will never know where the money came from, but our volunteers — and now our readers — know what the Great State of Maine Air Show can do for our community.
Kids on list
We added seven more boys and five more girls to our kids count. That’s a total of 70 children so far.
This is our second day of processing letters, and we are moving quickly toward possibly a record number of children this year.
I’ll have a better handle on the forecast by Monday, when I evaluate the first week’s results.
Last year, if you recall, we had packed toys for 627 children.
We could hit 700 by Dec. 17. Time will tell.
Parents can write to us by sending their request to The Santa Claus Fund Inc.
Our address is P.O. Box 278, Brunswick 04011.
Please write your name, address and phone number on your letter.
Then list your children by name, designate their gender, and add their date of birth. They must be 13 or younger.
Then, please contact us in a few days by dialing 319-4785. At that time we will issue a box number to you, give you a location and time to pick up your package.
Please bring a photo ID when picking up the package.
New donors
Today we received a donation from Goodwin’s Chevrolet for $100. With the $500 from MRRA, we now have $1,875 to date.
If you would like to help us this year, you can send a taxdeductible donation to The Santa Claus Fund Inc. at P.O. Box 278, Brunswick 04011.
Thank you to both of today’s contributors. We look forward to hearing from you.
Our goal this year is again $30,000 We only have 31 days to reach it.
I will keep sending our daily tallies, that you can find in this space or online at www.timesrecord.com.
THE SANTA CLAUS FUND reports are contributed by coordinator Dave Desjardins, known by volunteers as “the head elf.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
