President John Atwood announced the appointment. Patton will succeed Maureen Hoffman, who served in the position since 2002.
Patton has advanced degrees in biology and extensive experience overseeing a major preserve of The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut. He also earned a reputation for developing close relationships with landowners, municipal representatives and donors while greatly expanding conserved land, Atwood said in a news release.
“We are really looking forward to Steve’s arrival at SVCA in mid- January,” Atwood said. “His extensive background in science and land protection will serve the SVCA well.”
The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating stewardship of the 58- mile Sheepscot River and its watershed.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
