AUGUSTA (AP) — The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles and AAA are expanding the number of locations where motorists can renew their driver’s licenses.
Following a successful pilot program in Waterville, the program is being expanded today to include AAA branches in Portland, Bangor and Augusta.
Secretary of State Charlie Summers says the public-private partnership is providing more locations and flexible hours without any additional cost. Unlike BMV offices, AAA branch offices keep abbreviated business hours on Saturdays, as well as on weekdays.
Summers will join AAA Northern New England President Eric Cyr today in Portland.
The program will eventually include AAA’s remaining five offices.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
