Firefighters were able to quickly control smoldering within a chimney at 60 Middle Road early Monday, Dresden Fire Capt. Gorham Lilley said.

Lilley said the crews were called to Peter Elvin’s twostory home at 8:10 a.m. They cleared the scene at 9:51, but had the fire out much sooner than that, Lilley said.

A wood stove caused the fire, he said.

“It was just smoldering,” Lilley said. “We had to take the stovepipe apart and make sure there was nothing going in there.”

Elvin, who was not injured, called in the fire quickly after hearing a roaring in his chimney, Lilley said.

Crews from Richmond and Wiscasset aided Dresden firefighters. “We had quite a crew,” he said.
