NEWCASTLE
Stephen R. Patton of Whitefield is the new Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association executive director.
President John Atwood announced the appointment.
Patton will succeed Maureen Hoffman, who served in the position since 2002.
Patton has advanced degrees in biology and extensive experience overseeing a major preserve of The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut. He also earned a reputation for developing close relationships with landowners, municipal representatives and donors while greatly expanding the conserved land around the preserve, Atwood said in a news release.
“We are really looking forward to Steve’s arrival at SVCA in mid-January,” Atwood said. “His extensive background in science and land protection will serve the SVCA well as it continues to pursue its conservation mission in the watershed.”
The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine’s 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
