Thursday’s early snowfall is long gone, but the city will gear up nonetheless for the holiday season this evening.

At Now You’re Cooking, 49 Front St., downtown business owners will gather for a window decorating workshop.

Teresa Fogg, who has decorated windows at Now You’re Cooking and Bath Savings Bank, will facilitate.

Tonight’s workshop marks the first act of the Holiday Window Display Contest, put on by Main Street Bath, which takes place Dec. 10-16.

“We have fun,” said Jennifer Geiger, executive director of Main Street Bath. “Teresa is just really clever with materials and doing things that are eye-catching, which of course is what you want your windows to be.”

During the weeks leading up to Dec. 10, downtown businesses will compete in a friendly atmosphere for the most decorative windows.

Main Street Bath will choose three judges to select the most charming, the most festive and the most creative storefront window. In addition, the public will decide on the “people’s choice” award by casting votes at ballot boxes set up around the downtown.

Store owners will win certificates. There will be a drawing — called “The Gift of Bath” — for someone to win a gift basket, supplied by the businesses.

Judges will survey the city’s storefronts on Dec. 15. Winners will be announced during the annual “Sing! It’s Christmas,” celebration, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 17, at the Chocolate Church.

The city’s first Christmas event, meanwhile, is set for Nov. 24, the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Children’s activities will include the appearance of Santa Claus, and the lighting of the city’s Christmas Tree.
