BRUNSWICK — Recent rain and wind have combined to delay replacement of the Androscoggin River Bicycle Path pedestrian bridge.
Work began Friday to remove the existing bridge, which was damaged last spring when a passing truck clipped its understructure. A prefabricated replacement span will be set in place early this week and the project should be complete by Friday, according to Brunswick Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farrell.
The on- and off-ramps from Cook’s Corner to southbound U.S. Route 1 will be closed for the duration of the replacement, which began today and should be completed by Friday. Crews from contractor CPM Constructors will work from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day, except Tuesday, when work will continue until 10 p.m.
However, the bike path’s northern length, from the bridge to Grover Lane, will be closed until Nov. 16. The southern link will remain open; users are asked to access it from Water Street.
