GORHAM — The Little East Conference announced that University of Southern Maine freshman midfielder Brooke Lawrence of Lisbon Falls has been selected as the LEC women’s soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of October 22-28.
This is the first-ever LEC weekly award for Lawrence.
Lawrence is the first USM player to receive an LEC weekly accolade this season, and first Huskies player to be named Rookie of the Week since the 2006 season.
Playing in the Huskies’ must-win regular-season finale at Rhode Island College, Lawrence picked a perfect moment to score her first collegiate goal. The rookie midfielder collected the rebound of a free kick taken by sophomore Nicole Bordeau and deposited it into the net in the 21st minute of play to help her side prevail 2-1.
The victory earned the Huskies the sixth and final playoff berth in the upcoming LEC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament.
