BRUNSWICK — Dahlov Ipcar’s newest board book for young children, “Maine Alphabet,” hot off the press, and her seventh republished children’s book “Stripes and Spots,” will be on sale at Mid Coast Hospital on Friday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, when she holds her fifth book signing sponsored by the MCH Auxiliary.

A news release describes Ipcar’s work as follows:

The 94-year-old Ipcar is one of Maine’s celebrated artists and children’s authors, bringing to life her lifelong love affair with animals through her art work.

Ipcar of Robinhood in Georgetown, said her three board books have been fun to write because children can recognize her art work from other books.

With the first board book, Ipcar said she laid awake for two nights thinking about the text. “Words come easily now, I’ve got the hang of it,” she said.

In “Maine Alphabet,” she has one new spread for XYZ but the other letters will be from previous books. She said she thought about board books in the past, but it was Islandport Press in Yarmouth, her publisher, who made them happen. She is happy that they are “really very beautifully done.”

Ipcar keeps busy doing 10 paintings a year, “always my schedule.” She expects to have another art show next year. Her paintings are available at Frost Gully Gallery in Freeport and Thomaston.

The seven republished books and the three board books will be on sale at Mid Coast, with the sale to take place in the Café Corridor, to the left of the main entrance. Prices of these books range from $10.95 to $17.95. Payment may be by credit card, check or cash. The hospital is located at 123 Medical Center Drive, off Bath road and one mile east of Cook’s Corner.

Proceeds benefit the auxiliary’s $150,0000 pledge for the walk-in clinic in downtown Brunswick and health career scholarships. “These Maine children’s books are perfect gifts for children of all ages anytime of the time,” said Joy Johnson of Harpswell, auxiliary fundraising chairwoman.
