Amtrak has announced public events to inaugurate its new Downeaster service to Freeport and Brunswick.
“Community whistle-stop celebrations” have been scheduled Thursday on a ceremonial inaugural train traveling from Boston to Freeport and Brunswick to mark the launch of Amtrak’s newest service in Maine.
Celebrations will occur as the inaugural train stops for brief events — including entertainment and giveaways — at the Freeport and Brunswick stations.
The train is due in Freeport at 12:45 p.m. Thursday and in Brunswick at 1:35 p.m.
