BRUNSWICK — A contractor has made progress over the last two weeks to expedite reconstruction of Stanwood Street to add a northbound lane at the Pleasant Street intersection, town officials said.
Public Works Director John A. Foster said all underground improvements have been made, and utility companies have been relocating lines, which could be complete by next week.
Stanwood Street was closed again Monday for curbing and relocation of overhead lines, Foster said.
The street was to be reopened after work hours Monday, with northbound traffic on Stanwood Street traffic returning to normal by Wednesday, he said. But police will continue to keep Stanwood Street closed from Pleasant or Mill streets during daytime hours.
“To ensure Route 1 is not delayed, we do not want to go to two-way traffic with alternating flow, as that would cause backups on Route 1 while those wanting to use Stanwood Street would have to wait for clearance,” Foster said in a news release.
