PORTLAND (AP) — Republican Charlie Summers is accusing independent Angus King of using his connections to profit first from wind energy and now from natural gas.
Summers’ campaign manager, Lance Dutson, told reporters Tuesday that King, who once described Maine as the “Saudi Arabia of wind,” has changed his tune and now describes natural gas as “America’s second chance” after joining the board of natural gas engineering firm Woodard & Curran. Dutson said King was paid $25,000 for sitting on the board.
Dutson accused King of looking out for himself instead of doing what’s best for the country.
King’s spokeswoman, Crystal Canney, said King believes natural gas is a better option than nuclear power or drilling off the coast of Maine, which she said Summers supports.
