BATH — The Bath Area Crop Walk takes place Sunday.

Registration and celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the gazebo near City Park. The walk kicks off at 1:15 p.m. Participants are not required to walk the entire 6.5-mile course.

“The walk aims to help reduce world hunger and disasters around the world,” organizers said.

The Bath Area Food Bank will receive 25 percent of the funds collected. Last year’s walkers raised $6,500.

Walkers are urged to ask family, friends and co-workers to sponsor them with pledges. The walk is sponsored by Church World Service.

“Eight million people die each year of hunger … 6 million are children under the age of 8,” said Pauline Suter, an organizer of the local Crop Walk. “More than 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 per day. One of six lack access to safe drinking water.”

For more information and for sponsor forms, call Suter at 443-3976.
