BRUNSWICK — In observance of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Mid Coast Hospital will hold a book reading and signing by Christina Solak-Goodwin of her book, “Battling Bipolar Disorder; A Memoir.”
The free event is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Mid Coast Hospital Café Conference Room 3, 123 Medical Center Drive in Brunswick.
In her book, Goodwin graphically describes the pain, despair and hopelessness of suffering from mental illness for 17 years. She also describes the inner workings of mental institutions, suicidal plans and the relationships the bipolar patient has with her family and mental health doctors.
National Alliance on Mental Illness–Bath/Brunswick will have a resource table and volunteers available to answer questions and provide more information.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
