BRUNSWICK — Miss Maine Scholarship Program has announced that Rebecca Beck of Brunswick will be the director of Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen Program.

Beck, who held the title Miss Maine 1982, is owner of Studio 48 Performing Arts Center in Brunswick and Studio 48 Dance Studio in Topsham. She is also founder and president of New England Regional Theater Company, a nonprofit youth theater program in Brunswick.

She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and has studied privately at Juilliard. She was the first vocalist from Maine to attend Tanglewood in the young vocalist program. She has soloed with many symphony orchestras and starred in several operas and theater productions along the East Coast.

Beck resides in Brunswick with her two sons, dog and four cats.

Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen pageant is a scholarship based program offering accomplished teens the opportunity to be awarded funds for college. The program promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for Maine teens.

On Sept. 23, the program held the Miss Maine Day pageant at Brunswick High School’s Crooker Theater to raise scholarship funds. The pageant awards titles in four age groups while providing opportunities for growth and achievement.

Eliza Jack, 6 of Baileyville, was crowned Miss Mini Maine 2012. Alivia Branish, 4, of Windham, received High Interview Score and was named Miss Photogenic and Essay winner in that age group.

Elizabeth Collins, 11, of Mapleton, was crowned Miss Little Maine 2012 and also received high score for the interview portion of the competition. Kendra Smith, 9, of Sanford, won the essay contest, and Brianna Jack, 8, of Baileyville, was named Miss Photogenic.

Emily Baker, 14, of Topsham, was crowned Miss Young Teen Maine 2012. She also won the interview portion of the competition, the essay contest and was named Miss Photogenic.

Abigail Shea, 16, of Mt. Vernon, was named Miss Teen Maine 2012. Audrey Thames, 17, of Topsham, won the essay contest and the interview portion of the competition. Emily Christakis, 15, of Gorham, was named Miss Photogenic.

The Miss Maine Scholarship Program is the official preliminary to the Miss America Pageant, one of the largest achievement programs and the largest source of scholarships for young women in the world, awarding more than $45 million last year at the local, state and national levels.
