COLUMBUS, OH — Dr. Janice M. Gallagher White, age 58, of Columbus, OH, passed away September 10, 2012 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her family. Janice was born December 4, 1953, in Columbus, to Helen (nee Gale) and the late Dudley “Ned” Gallagher. Preceded in death by her father
Janice is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Peter White formerly of West Bath; children, Stephen (Buffy) White of Atlanta, GA, Barbara (Tim) Harry and William (Tina) White of Columbus; grandchildren, Joseph and Brayden White of Atlanta, Christopher and Ella Harry and, Evelyn, Isabella, Abigail and Lillian White, all of Columbus. Also surviving are Janice’s mother, Helen Gallagher; brothers, Dennis Gallagher of Houston, TX, Jim (Kim) Gallagher of Columbus; sisters, Maryanne (John) Jackson, Sheila (Andy) Behrendt and Peggy Gallagher, all of Columbus; nieces, Emily Jackson and McKenna Gallagher and nephews, Christopher Jackson, Jakob and Joseph Behrendt and Grady Gallagher; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy, Janice attended the University of Dayton and the Ohio State University School of Medicine. Janice served in the U.S. Navy as a pediatrician where she met and married the love of her life while stationed in Japan. After serving her country honorably for 7 years Dr. Gallagher continued to pursue her true passion and calling in life of helping children as a pediatrician. After 33 years of practice, Dr. Gallagher retired this spring from the Ohio Center for Pediatrics in Dublin, where she was dedicated to caring for countless young patients.
Janice was a member of several professional organizations and served on the Boards of Columbus Speech and Hearing and Children’s Practicing Physicians in addition to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Medical Staff where she served for a term as president. She was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Worthington where she sang in the choir and served as a preschool Sunday school teacher for several years.
She will be remembered for her love of cats, reading, singing, gardening, playing games with her family and of course, love of children.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on September 15th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 5750 N. High St., Worthington. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dr. Janice Gallagher’s honor to the Central Ohio Division of the March of Dimes, 975 Eastwind Drive Suite 150, Westerville, OH. 43081.
