To the editor:
As a “Grandmother for Obama,” I am one of many women who want a better world for my children and grandchildren. Although our country faces difficult economic and social challenges, we are making slow and steady progress in the right direction.
Thanks to loans from the government, the U.S. auto companies are now competitive and profitable. Jobs were saved. The Dow Jones has been above 13,000 for several months — a huge increase over the 8,000 figure in January 2009 when President Obama took office. The economy has added private-sector jobs for the last 28 straight months — a nice turnaround from the 2.6 million job losses in 2008.
Most important to me, however,
Barack Obama cares about the issues most important to women and helped us take the first step toward reforming health care, especially for women and children. I will vote for President Obama — and urge others to join me.
“Grandmothers for Obama” is a dedicated, enthusiastic group of grandmothers who are reaching out to other grandmothers to get out the vote.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
