A Casco man faces numerous charges after an earlymorning scuffle with police last Sunday.
Seth Tompkins, 34, of 35 Graffam Road, Casco, pulled into a parking spot on the town wharf shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, but refused to move his car when Officer Keith Norris informed Tompkins that he was not authorized to use that slot, said Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse.
When Tompkins refused to move his car and became belligerent,
“things just escalated from there,” Nourse said.
With the help of officer Paul Powers and Sgt. Nathaniel Goodman, Tompkins was subdued, arrested and taken to Cumberland County Jail. He is charged with assaulting an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, obstruction of government administration and disorderly conduct.
Released on $2,000 cash bail, Tompkins is due to be in court Nov. 6 in West Bath.
Norris was treated for a “soft-tissue shoulder injury” at Mercy Hospital in Portand and released later that day, Nourse said.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
