BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Joe Nixon scooped up a fumble and rumbled 98 yards for the go-ahead touchdown as the Freeport High School football team pulled out an 18-14 Campbell Conference victory over Boothbay on Friday.

Down 14-12 at the half, Dan Burke’s hard hit caused the Seahawks (0-1) fumble, with Nixon finding daylight and pulling away for the score.

“It was a big play, and one of eight Boothbay fumbles that we caused,” said Freeport (1-0) coach Rob Grover, whose squad is scheduled to host Sacopee Valley (0- 1) this upcoming Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pownal Recreational Field.

Freeport jumped on top 6-0 in the second quarter when Burke scored on a 3-yard run. The scoring drive was helped along by a James Purdy pass to Nixon to keep the drive alive. Purdy was 3-of-8 for 41 yards in the air.

Boothbay tied it, but the Falcons reclaimed the lead when quarterback Purdy scored on an 18-yard run for a 12-6 Freeport advantage.

Myers gave Morse a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 23- yard run, and McKellar made it a 12-0 game at the half on a 25-yard scamper.

Leading 18-0, Myers added a 16-yard run and McKellar an 18-yard TD burst before James Laser completed the Morse scoring on a 5-yard score.

DIRIGO 28

The host Cougars scored 20 fourth-quarter points for a come-from-behind Campbell Conference win on Friday in Dixfield.

Lisbon, 0-1 and scheduled to host 1-0 Maranacook on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., led 14-6 after three quarters. But, Brett Whittemore scored on a 1-yard run, and Heath Hersom ran in the 2-point conversion for a 16-14 Dirigo (1-0) lead with 8:04 left in the contest.

The Greyhounds jumped out to an 8-0 lead when Kyle Sheehan scored on a 6-yard run, followed by a conversion run by Jordan Torres.

Dirigo tied the game on a Spencer Trenoweth (201 yards rushing) 56-yard gallop, but Lisbon went up 14-6 as quarterback Kyle Bourget found a seam and rumbled 35 yards to paydirt.

“A lot of kids carried the ball for us and played a lot of football,” said Lisbon coach Dick Mynahan. “Defensively, I thought we played a good game, with Dirigo getting most of their yardage in the fourth quarter.”

Bourget paced Lisbon with 47 yards rushing and completed 2-of-11 in the air for 47 yards. He was intercepted twice.
