AUGUSTA (AP) — A commissioner who’s losing his job with the merging of the departments of Conservation and Agriculture has been nominated to the Maine Board of Education.

Bill Beardsley, a former president of Husson College, was nominated by Gov. Paul LePage.

Beardsley has served as Conservation Department commissioner, but his post will be eliminated when the agency merges with the Agriculture Department today.

Beardsley came under fire recently after state police disclosed that people said they’d warned him that a chaplain at Husson had abused several children. The chaplain later took his life.
