BRUNSWICK
Parking changes in effect this week at Bowdoin College should make it easier for students and visitors alike to find a spot to park and stay, according to school officials.
Students should park in the Farley Field House and Watson Arena lots.
The former student lot at Coffin Street now will be used for faculty, staff and visitor parking during daylight hours.
Burton-Little House’s lot now entirely is designated for admissions office visitors and Russwurm House will be used as a general visitors lot, with both faculty and students prohibited from parking in it.
Along with the revised parking schemes, enforcement will be increased as well. Fines for each parking violation will be $25, and repeat offenders will be towed.
For more information and a map of the affected lots, see www.bowdoin.edu/security/p arking/registration.shtml.
A land-use study, done in 2011 and approved last spring for implementation during the current academic year, concluded that plenty of potential parking space already exists on campus. By reassigning some lots and changing the use of others, the college hopes to preserve existing green spaces and avoid building new structures.
