SCARBOROUGH — Kitchen & Cork and King Arthur Flour will hold a contest for the best fall pie and cupcake recipe on Sept. 16 at Kitchen & Cork, 400 Expedition Drive. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the March of Dimes Foundation, who will hold a “touch-a-truck” event at the store on the same day.
A news release describes the contest guidelines as follows:
There will be three categories for judging pies: Best Fruit Pie, Best Cream Pie, and Best Alternative Pie. The vote will be determined by a panel of judges who will evaluate entries for creativity, presentation, texture and flavor. Each entrant will provide two pies. One of the pies will be judged and the other pie will be sold whole or by the slice at the contest site.
There are four categories for cupcake contest: Best Decorated Cupcake (adult and youth) and Best Tasting Cupcake (adult and youth). Contestants should prepare 12 standard-size cupcakes. At check-in, three cupcakes will be set aside and confidentially labeled for the panel of judges to evaluate. The remaining cupcakes will be sold.
Complete rules and registration forms can be found at www.kitchenandcork.com.
Registration forms should be mailed to Jane St. Pierre, 400 Expedition Drive, Suite A, Scarborough, ME 04074, no later than Aug. 31.
