The name of a Marine who sacrificed his life for his country will be
memorialized on Sunday, when Co. A, 1st Battalion, dedicates its new
building in the name of First Lt. James Zimmerman.

The public is invited to join the family and military officials for
the dedication ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. The new Co. A, 1st
Battalion building is located at Brunswick Landing, formerly Brunswick
Naval Air Station.

Afghanistan since the summer of that year.

“It just makes sense to honor him and dedicate this building to his
name,” said Staff Sgt. Isaias Gonzales. “He was part of this unit.”

Zimmerman’s widow, Lynel Winters, and his parents, Tom and Jane Zimmerman, will be present at Sunday’s ceremony.

building,” Carabine said. “He served on this unit, and he was the clear
choice as to who this unit is all about.”

Co. A, 1st Battalion is a training center for the Marines Infantry
Reserves. A small staff of active-duty Marines staffs the operation.

building, Carabine said, prompting the decision to build a new structure
