
She was born in Bath on February 18, 1943, a daughter of Arthur F. and Shirley H. (Alexander) Murphy. Sookie attended Phippsburg schools and on August 18, 1962 she married Merle L. Chaney, Jr.
She enjoyed camping, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, dice, card games, and board games but her greatest passion was to spend time with her family, grandchildren and great grandson.
She was predeceased by her father, Arthur F. Murphy on August 3, 1983, her granddaughter, Stephanie N. Westrum on July 8, 2010 and her mother, Shirley H. Murphy on December 1, 2011.
Sookie is survived by her husband, Merle L. Chaney Jr. of Phippsburg, one daughter, Leticia “Tish” Westrum and her husband Jeffrey of Phippsburg, three sons, Daren Chaney and his wife Dina, Merle Chaney III and his wife Minnie and Todd Chaney, all of Phippsburg, one sister, Ivirna Trembley of Bath, 3 grandchildren, Katie Westrum, Ryan Chaney and Tori Jones, one great grandson, Lochlan Aldridge, many nieces and nephews.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Phippsburg Fire And Rescue, P.O. Box 83, Phippsburg, 04562.
