ROCKPORT — Midcoast Community Chorus is sponsoring an open competition for artwork and cover design for a new choral score created for the chorus by composer Paul Sullivan.

According to a news release, the composition, “One Song at a Time,” celebrates MCC’s mission to “sing as a community for the community.”

A news release details the submission process as follows:

Artwork must be original and easily reproduced in black and white. Submissions must emailed to info@mccsings.org and received digitally as JPG files no larger than 2 MB by midnight on Sept. 1.

The artist selected will be credited in any printings of the cover design, an accompanying bio in the Jan. 13, 2013, concert program, and receive a signed score by the composer as well as two reserve seats to the concert at Strom Auditorium.

Artwork will appear on the limited-edition first printing and on any future printings at the discretion of the composer. All rights will belong to MCC and Paul Sullivan/River Music.

The final decision will be made by a panel of judges and the winner will be notified by email on or before Sept. 15.

“We thought it would be fun to open the cover design up to the community at large. There are so many talented artists in the Mid-coast region and we’d love to see their take on this exciting new commission for the chorus and have them involved in the process,” a spokesperson for MCC said in a news release.
