The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating a head-on collision on Old Brunswick Road that sent both drivers involved to the hospital — one with serious injury.

The sheriff ’s department was called to the area of 248 Old Brunswick Road at 9:37 a.m., for the two-vehicle collision that left both vehicles resting just off the roadway.

According to Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry, “A 1999 Saab convertible traveling east on the Old Brunswick Road, apparently crossed over into the opposite lane. A 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling west attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle but was unable to avoid the head-on collision. The operators of both vehicles sustained injuries. Neither speed or alcohol are considered a contributing factor.”

Merry said, “Witnesses following the Saab observed it cross the center line prior to the collision. It remains unclear as to the exact cause at this time.”

The Saab was driven by Karen Jones, 47, of Bath. She was taken by Bath Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries, according to the press release issued by the sheriff ’s department, which stated is appears Jones was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was in critical condition as of this morning according to a hospital spokesperson.
