Despite threatening clouds, people turned up in droves to take part in the fun at Mitchell Field during the annual Harpswell Heritage Days celebration on Sunday. As one walked down from the parking area, the smell of countless types of food wafted across the field. Colorful booths lined both sides of the narrow street and boats were moored to the end of the dock. There were games to try, things to buy and a parade to watch. Dori Barnes sang a beautiful rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” to officially start the festivities. The Harpswell American Legion Post 171 was well represented and led the parade down past all the vendors. It was a successful event despite the other-than-perfect weather.
