PORTLAND — Reynaldo Rodriguez punctuated Portland’s 5-2 Eastern League win over the Trenton Thunder (59-43) with two home runs, including a majestic shot over the Maine Monster in the eighth inning on Tuesday Night.
The Sea Dogs (47-57) continued their recent hot streak, winning for the 11th time in 14 games.
Starting pitcher Stolmy Pimentel held Trenton to two runs in earning the win. Pimentel went 6.1 frames, retiring 11 consecutive Thunder hitters in one stretch. He struck out six and walked one.
Rodriguez went 3-for-4 on the night with two long home runs and five RBIs. He extended his hitting streak to five games and is 9-for-24 (.375) in that stretch.
Jackie Bradley Jr. had a 2-for-4 performance for the Sea Dogs and scored a run.
Portland jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning. Bradley Jr. led-off with a single, and two batters later Marquez Smith doubled in a run ahead of a two-run home run by Rodriguez for a 3-0 lead.
Trenton answered with a run in the second when Melka Mesa, who had tripled, scored on a single by Kevin Mahoney.
