MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Portland Sea Dogs scored two runs in the top of the ninth to pull out a 3-2 Eastern League victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday in the first of a fourgame series.
The win, Portland’s seventh in the past nine games, was made possible by sloppiness in the field by New Hampshire, which committed two ninthinning errors. Dan Butler scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Drew Hedman.
Jeremy Hazelbaker staked the Sea Dogs to a 1-0 lead in the third inning with his fifth home run in the last eight games.
New Hampshire jumped on top 2-1 in the eighth when Brian Bocock walked, moved to third on a single and stole home.
Ryan Pressly took the mound win, going the final two innings with three strikeouts.
The teams will meet in the second game of the series tonight. Portland southpaw Chris Hernandez gets the start against New Hampshire’s Ryan Tepera.
