Students from Regional School Unit 1 will participate in Maine’s First Ship’s Summer Shipbuilding Program beginning Wednesday.
Courses on mast construction and rigging techniques will be held Tuesdays through Thursdays until mid- August at the Bath Freight Shed, according to a release.
Master shipwright Rob Stevens will work with adult and student volunteers Friday through Monday evenings, building frames for a replica of the Virginia, a pinnace built by Popham Colony settlers in 1608, and completing the stem and stern.
Maine’s First Ship is open to visitors when “the flag of St. George is flying” over the Bath Freight Shed.
