This weekend, 10 of Maine’s top equestrian clubs will gather at the Topsham Fairgrounds for a variety of clinics, demonstrations and competitions called the Maine Equine Super Showdeo (MESS).
The event starts this morning and will run until 8 p.m. today. The MESS continues from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Events will include barrel racing, cowboy mounted shooting, trail challenges, carriage driving, mounted games, and versatility tests.
Admission today is free, but various equine rescue groups will be on hand to collect donations in lieu of admission.
Harry Lewis created the MESS as a means to benefit horse rescue groups and horse clubs, according to a press release about the event.
Admission Saturday and Sunday costs $5 per carload. Along with all of the listed events, mechanical bull riding, living pony rides and a “Kids Karnival” with special activities and crafts will be offered. Food vendors will be on hand as well.
For more information, and a complete schedule, visit themessmaine.com or find MESS on Facebook.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
