PORTLAND — Lanyard Theatre Company will present “Whale Watch,” an original short by Linda Giuliano, as part of the first PortFringe 2012 theater festival at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The cast includes former Topsham resident Christopher Reiling and Bath native Elizabeth Lardie. Lardie’s fellow Lanyard co-artistic director, Joseph Barbarino, directs.
Performances of “Whale Watch” will be part of a “triple ticket” also featuring performances by the American Irish Repertory Ensemble and Cauldron and Labrys Productions.
A release about the production describes “Whale Watch” as “an understated look at the absurdity of life, love, and the challenges of being halfhuman, half-whale.”
PortFringe, a new event celebrating the off-beat, original and envelope-pushing, runs through Sunday and is presented by the Portland Theatre Collaborative. Tickets to individual events cost $10. For more information, visit www.portfringe.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
