TOPSHAM
The Maine Department of Transportation announced Wednesday the opening of a new park and ride lot at Home Depot in the Topsham Fair Mall.
According to an MDOT release, Home Depot at 154 Topsham Fair Mall Road agreed to partner with MDOT by designating a portion of its parking lot to provide a place for those who carpool and share rides to park vehicles.
The park and ride lot offers 40 parking spaces and is open to the general public. It does provide for overnight parking, but requires permission from MDOT to leave a vehicle at the facility for more than 24 hours.
The commuter parking lot previously located in the mall in front of the former Village Candle — where Renys opened a new location — closed July 15, 2011.
To date, the state lists 54 public park and ride lots in Maine. The MDOT works in conjunction with the Maine Turnpike Authority in administering the statewide program.
