PORTLAND — The Boston Celtics are taking over the basketball operations of the Maine Red Claws NBA Development League team.
The team also announced Thursday it has entered into A single-affiliation partnership with the Red Claws. The Red Claws last year were affiliated with the Celtics and two other NBA teams.
In a press conference at the Red Claws’ offices in Portland, Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge said the Celtics will have decision-making authority over the coaching staff and player rosters. He said the Red Claws will run similar offensive and defensive schemes as the Celtics so that players will be familiar with the Celtics’ plays when they’re called up to the NBA.
The Red Claws’ ownership remains the same.
